What's wrong with a Cape Cod style house?
Maybe it's just a personal preference, but in looking for housing I have found a place that seems to be selling for much less than it could be worth. It looks great to me. From asking around, the reason it is selling so cheap is because it's a cape cod style (and we are in the Midwest).
Does this really matter? Is there some inherent flaw in this kind of style or is it really just "out of style"?
Anyway, we don't mind being not the coolest people on the block, but we don't want to get a place that has some major disadvantage that we haven't yet noticed.
The low ceiling is a good point, definitely something to consider.
I figure I will be sleeping in the upstairs bedrooms anyway. We will be getting an inspection to find any particular issues with this particular house.
I am more concerned with maybe something like "they generally have poor foundations" or "they tend to have bad plumbing" or something along those lines that wouldn't be so visible.
Whether this particular house has some peculiar problem is something you're going to have to determine for yourself. In general, cape cod style houses are one-and-a-half stories, which means they have small bedrooms upstairs with sloping ceilings. Some people find this cosy, but many find them claustrophobic.
